Jesus On The Mainline

“If you need me, why don’t you call me.” -Solomon Burke

We’re gonna ride that train with the wings of a dove
Blow that whistle loud and long, as we’re coming down the line
calling all the common ones, ‘Come share in Jesus love.’

There’s room enough for everyone, no need to push or shove
(Just tell him what you want) as our voices rise, then combine
and pour out like steam from this train with the wings of a dove.

Heading out to paradise, so high up above,
it doesn’t matter when we get there, we have time
to listen for the call, ‘Come share in Jesus’ love’

like the songs of gypsies whose ballrooms are the mud
the faithful stand in, waiting for a sign
of that train coming to take them away on the wings of a dove.

His heart is the engine that slowly climbs and chugs
up this mountain, trying to free your heart and mine
as he calls all the common ones, ’Come share in my love.’

Only He was strong enough to care while he drug
that old rugged cross before turning his blood into the wine
we drink as we ride this train with the wings of a dove
and answer the call when He says, ‘Come share in my love.”
