We Can Dance

Someday I’ll meet you in the meadow
and we can dance again
someday we’ll just get up and go
look back and watch it spin

The forest will freeze if the fire doesn’t get there first
the ice will come anyway trying to quench its thirst
drinking up the ground into a lifeless palace
before receding back and revealing us

The roots wait in silent retreat, a highway underground
The core is frozen waiting for summer to come around
Wonder lock, the skies will bathe us with rain
and the earth will become mud in its silent refrain

You never remember the summer when the days are short
you only remember the season because when it starts
like midnight is deep, or the air we breathe is dark
you never remember somewhere there’s a spark
