Making Lures

The old shoe, soft
leather curved
and rough
with rain and sun,
that will become the tiny body
of an insect,

ornamented with horse hair
to replicate the legs
that skirt along
the surface

and beads to appear
as eyes from below water
where trout spawn.

The steady hand that creates
carefully hides a hook, on the back
of the leather body, just above
the skeletal legs

that call.
